Spirited Isle gives a sequence of reports from the Ghost Room. In 1998 the BBC Radio Ulster journalist Kim Lenaghan visited it with a psychic medium for a Halloween piece. They reported a sudden temperature rise, a strong smell of musty vanilla and the presence of a distressed young woman searching for her child. The medium claimed Isabella was held against her will by an older female spirit and was waiting for someone named Robert to rescue her from the sea. Lenaghan tried to spend the night in the room, but at 3 am, after another wave of heat and a stronger vanilla smell, she fled to the other end of the hotel, shaken but unharmed.
In the early 2000s a film crew experienced temperature changes and unexplained battery drain. In 2013 a journalist said she saw a woman in period dress staring at her from a mirror. In 2016 a team using a ghost box, a radio-scanning device, said they heard voices including a child and several men speaking in Gaelic, and one member felt someone sit on the bed beside them. Spirited Isle notes that the fame of the legend may itself shape what guests experience.
In 2003 the hotel manager set up a private dinner in the corner turret room, then called the Dungeon Room and now the 1625 Room, locked it, and returned to find the glasses rearranged into a circle with an odd residue and the napkins unfolded. She called herself a sceptic and could not explain it.
