Madame Nixon and the Child at Ballygally

Ballygally Castle Hotel, Coast Road, Ballygally

Reports in recent decades

A second ghost at Ballygally Castle is Madame Nixon. The hotel calls her a nineteenth century former resident who can be heard walking at night with the rustle of her silk skirts. Spirited Isle says she is thought to be a relative of the Shaw family who returned to Ballygally after her husband's death and lived there until her own death in 1789, and that guests have reported the swish of a silk dress in the hallways and the faint scent of perfume.

A child spirit is also reported. Guests have heard laughter and small feet running in empty rooms. One man said he felt a small hand touch his back while he slept, then remembered he had come to the hotel alone, and ran to reception in his underwear.

A working hotel.
