The Bathgate Cats of 2001

Also known as: Beast of West Lothian

Bathgate and the old West Lothian College

May and summer 2001

The first witness watched the animal for twenty minutes and described a ginger colour with tufts of white or lighter hair on its face and its tail held up as it walked. The second, a worker based in Bathgate, was walking on a path behind the old West Lothian College early in the morning and found a black cat washing itself. He said it made its way in long grass towards its next prey, and that he heard squawking and later found droppings and took photographs. He said he did not report it for fear of ridicule.

Neither report was confirmed. The pin is placed on the town.
