A reported haunting at a house on Edinburgh Street in Belfast dates to about 2011, when a young couple moved in. At first the activity was subtle. The house was unusually cold even in summer, kitchen cupboards were found open in the mornings, and once the back door was ajar though locked. The man had trouble sleeping and a sensation that his foot was being slowly pulled across the bed.
Things changed after a neighbour, an elderly woman, called it a haunted house and described a former family there. In her telling, a violent argument between the parents ended with their young child, drawn from bed by the noise, being pushed down the stairs and killed. The directory notes there is no verified record linking such an event to the address; it appears to be local storytelling.
Soon after, the woman woke to find her partner muttering toward a dark figure at the foot of the bed. On another evening, coming home alone, she saw a shadow at the top of the stairs and, when she put on the light, thought she briefly saw a young boy before he vanished. She left to stay with a friend in the Stranmillis area, glimpsing the figure again as she left. The last incident was a soft whimpering that grew into a loud distressed wail, and when the boyfriend looked, there was nothing. They left the next week.
