Binny Craig, the Fairy Hill

Also known as: Binny Crag

Binny Craig, near Uphall

Tradition; undated

The Gazetteer for Scotland says that according to local tradition Binny Craig was said to have once been the haunt of fairies. It is a spectacular example of a crag-and-tail feature formed by glaciers, with a steep western face and a gentler eastern slope, and it is part of the Bathgate Hills.

The name is sometimes said to come from a peasant, William Binnock, given an estate by Robert the Bruce for recapturing Linlithgow Castle in 1313, a separate tradition. No fairy story is given, only the association, so this is a place reputation rather than a tale.
