The trail is a way for visitors to reach the spot associated with Robert Taylor's account of 9 November 1979. Undiscovered Scotland says the landscape has changed significantly since then: the forestry planted at the time has grown. Atlas Obscura also lists the trail and monument. The trail itself is a modern piece of local visitor culture and is recorded here separately from the 1979 report.
The pin is placed on Dechmont Law and is approximate, since the plaque and trail lie some way from the hill's summit.
