The vanishing hitch-hiker is one of the most widespread ghost stories in the world, told of roads in every country with cars. A driver picks up a stranger, usually a young woman, who gives an address and then vanishes from the seat before they arrive. Blaenavon, the iron and coal town at the head of the Afon Llwyd, has its own version, set in the 1930s.
The Great British Ghost Tour gives few details: a phantom hitch-hiker reported on the road between two places called the Fiddler's Elbow and the Queen's pub. It adds that a cyclist riding along the same road reported being given "quite a good push" by something unseen.
The locations have not been identified with certainty, and the pin is placed approximately at Blaenavon. The story is marked unconfirmed.
