The White Coifed Lassie and the Carriage Accident

Brahan estate, near Dingwall

1823

Wikipedia lists a daughter, Caroline Elizabeth Mackenzie, as accidentally killed and unmarried, and its page on Brahan Castle records the monument and the carriage accident in 1823. That is the documented part. The link to the prophecy, and the claim that her sister was at the reins, comes from the retelling of the doom rather than from the records.

The white coif is explained as a widow's cap, worn by Lady Hood after her husband's death in India, which is where the east comes in. Predictions of this kind work best when they are vague, and a reader can decide for themselves how well this one fits.
