The Cow in Fairburn Tower

Fairburn Tower, near Muir of Ord

Prophecy attributed to the 17th century; the calving reported as before 1877

Mackenzie says hundreds of people within living memory had known of the prophecy before it was fulfilled, and that people travelled from Inverness to see the cow and calf before they were moved. He treats it as one of the best attested of the Seer's predictions, and also gives a version by Maclennan in which the Seer spoke to a large crowd and said a child then unborn would see it.

There is nothing impossible in the story. Cattle do climb stairs for feed, and an abandoned tower is a natural place to store straw. Whether the prophecy was really told beforehand is the unanswerable part.
