On the road between Newtownards and Crawfordsburn, not far from the Clandeboye Lodge Hotel, a quiet bridge has produced several reports of a solitary man in black. He wears a long cloak over dark clothes, with trousers tucked into high boots, and stands by the roadside before disappearing.
The Spirited Isle entry says that staff at the Clandeboye Estate told its author that the historical records of the Blackwood family, who have owned the estate since the 17th century, mention a highwayman who was captured, found guilty and hanged at this bridge as a warning to others. On that basis the figure is taken to be the highwayman himself. The entry also places the spot near the one known as Murder Bridge (see that record).
