Between Dundonald and Craigantlet a modest bridge, marked on some maps as Murder Bridge, has long been tied to eerie sightings. Many witnesses over the years have described a lone man, or sometimes a man and a woman, in 19th-century clothes slowly crossing the road. When they reach the far side they vanish.
The haunting may rest on a real event. According to the local history book The Most Unpretending of Places, a man named Thomas O'Gilmore was murdered on the bridge in the early 1800s, allegedly by a group of Scotsmen. Some believe the figures are Thomas and his wife, held to the spot where he died.
