Folklore & legend

Cora and the Leap at Corra Linn

Corra Linn, Falls of Clyde, near New Lanark

Legend, undated

The story is offered in a gazetteer for the site and is not supported by any early record of a daughter of Malcolm called Cora. It belongs with a large family of stories in which a place name is explained by a tragic woman, often with a leap from a height. The ruined Corra Castle stands above the falls, which are part of a nature reserve reached by the Clyde walkway.
