Caves and hiding places are attached to Wallace all over southern Scotland, and the Biggar archaeology group has noted a small quarry cave near Biggar that is also often called a Wallace hiding place, and says such features take on romantic interpretations to suit local mythology. The Cartland gorge was cut by the Mouse Water and is a real and dramatic setting. Nothing links the cave to Wallace beyond tradition.
