The castle was built by John Halliday in 1608 and has been owned by the Moncreiff family since about 1740. The executions themselves took place in a field called Lamblairs beside Cruick Mill in Crook of Devon, not at the castle. This is a modern memorial rather than a haunting, and it is recorded here because it marks the trials.
