Just off Greengraves Road, in a quiet field near Dundonald, stands the structure known as the Kemp Stones or Kempe Stones, a portal tomb with a large capstone over five supporting stones and a burial chamber beneath. For generations locals have told of strange events here. The main one is the apparition of a headless drummer boy seen silently circling the stones at night. Others have reported hearing unintelligible whispers with no clear source, which some take to be the echoes of Norsemen buried below. The directory describes the site as Norse, which is not how such portal tombs are normally dated; they are usually Neolithic.
