The Woman on the Stairs and the Witch's Eye, Scrabo Tower

Scrabo Tower, Newtownards

Undated; childhood tradition

Scrabo Tower, the Newtownards landmark built in the 19th century on Scrabo Hill, has legends of its own. Visitors report hearing whispers and banging inside late at night, and some say they have seen a woman in period dress walking down the curved staircase. Local children were told a witch lived in the tower and that the red light at the top was her glowing eye, always watching them.
