She wrote two letters from St Kilda. The first, dated 20 January 1738, did not reach her lawyer Thomas Hope until December 1740. The second was addressed to Dr Carlyle and survives only as a copy of 1741. Hope sent an armed sloop with twenty men in February 1741, but she had already been removed from the island. She was taken on to Skye, where she died in 1745.
Sources differ on the exact dates of her time on each island. This record makes no claim about any haunting, as none is documented in the sources used.
