The Presence on the Top Floor of Bond's Hotel

Former Bond's Hotel, Carlisle Road, Derry

After the hotel closed in the 1960s

Spirited Isle says a building on Carlisle Road in Derry was known in the early 20th century as Bond's Hotel, which closed in the 1960s. The ground floor was divided into shops and the old bedrooms became offices. One of the first businesses to open there was a bridal shop, whose owner held the keys and had to check the building was empty each night.

She knew part of the building had a haunted reputation but paid no attention. One night, locking up, she saw a light left on in a top floor office and stepped into the corridor. A woman was standing opposite the door of that room, pressed against the wall as if frozen in fear. She said there was a presence and she could not move. The shop owner saw nothing, but felt that something was wrong. Despite the heat in the building, a distinct chill came from that room, and both women sensed something malevolent but unseen. It took half an hour to leave. The owner would not go to the top floor alone again.
