Overtoun Bridge and the Leaping Dogs

Also known as: Dog Suicide Bridge

Overtoun Bridge, Overtoun Estate, Milton

Reports from the 1950s or 1960s onward; widely publicised from 2005

The sources disagree about when the reports began and how many dogs have been involved. Wikipedia says the media reports began in 2005, one listing says since the 1950s, and another says the early 1960s. Locals who knew the bridge have said the story has been overplayed.

The tragedy of 1994 was a real event with a family behind it, and is mentioned only because it is part of the bridge's public reputation. Visitors with dogs should keep them on a lead near the parapet.

The bridge is on the public Overtoun estate paths. Keep dogs on a lead near the parapet.
