The Wooden Limbs of St Moluag's

Teampull Mholuaidh (St Moluag's Church), Eoropie, Ness, Lewis

Healing site, account of 1630

The building is dated anywhere between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries and is traditionally linked to the MacLeods. It was roofless and used as a sheep shelter before its restoration in 1911 and 1912. Two other ruined temples lie nearby, Teampall Ronaidh about 500 metres to the north east and Teampall Pheadair near Swainbost.

The practice of leaving wooden limbs is a form of votive offering known elsewhere in Europe. The detail here comes from a single secondary summary, so the original 1630 author is not named in this record.
