Hauntings

The Green Lady of Newton Castle

Also known as: Lady Jean Drummond

Newton Castle, Blairgowrie

Undated tradition

In the first version the love had to be abandoned after a fresh bloody feud, and Jean drowned herself in a nearby loch. In the second, the woman died before her wish was granted and haunts the castle in the green dress she wore on the quest. The apparition is said to be strongest at Halloween, and it was said that her gravestone turned three times around that night.

The same Lady Jean story is told at Ardblair Castle, which Wikipedia describes as the home of a green lady ghost. The stories show how a local romance was attached to the nearest tower house. No dated sighting is given.

Newton Castle stands in Blairgowrie and is private property.
