The castle was once almost surrounded by a loch, now largely drained, which fits the detail that Jean drowned in a marsh. Wikipedia gives only the short version: a woman in green silk searching the chambers. Mysterious Britain has a longer tale attached to Newton Castle in which the green dress was woven by fairies. The link between the castle and Jean is a tradition, and there is no record of a named witness.
