The Woman in the Shawl at Skaill House

Skaill House, Sandwick, Mainland

Undated, a summer morning

This report comes from the same ghost roundup as the Ubby legend and is a different kind of story. There is no history attached to the woman and no name. She is simply an old lady in a shawl, seen by more than one cleaner in broad summer daylight, standing in a doorway.

What made it a ghost story was the follow up. When the cleaners asked about the guest, they were told the apartment had been empty. The source gives no date and no names, so this is a single undated account.

Skaill House has a reputation for poltergeist type activity, which probably colours how the story is retold, but the shawl woman should be treated as a separate sighting.

Skaill House is a visitor attraction with seasonal opening.
