This entry comes from the earldom's accounts and not from a trial record, which is why it is brief. Jonet of Cara was burned for witchcraft, and her goods went to the Earl, Patrick Stewart, known as Black Patie.
The same document lists a few other accused around 1595, including Alisoun Margaret's daughter of Thurvoe, Anne Marsetter of Halkland in Rendall, Elspet Marsetter of Wosbuster in South Sandwick, and Robert Ness of Ireland in Stenness, one of the few men.
It matters because the confiscated property of the condemned was income for the earl, which may help explain why prosecutions peaked while he was in power.
