The Mermaid and the Port Henderson Boatbuilder

Port Henderson, Gairloch

Told 1880s of an earlier time

He seized her by the hair. She cried that if he let go she would grant him whatever favour he asked. He asked for a pledge that nobody would ever be drowned from any boat he built, and she promised.

Dixon says the promise was kept throughout Rorie's long career as a boatbuilder, and adds that he owns one of his boats and that the story would suit a trade advertisement.
