Tollymore House was a Georgian mansion built about 1730 by James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Clanbrassil, and for generations the seat of the Earls of Roden. It was demolished in 1952. The surrounding land became Northern Ireland's first state forest park in 1955, with the Gothic-style Barbican Gate and the Clanbrassil Barn, a barn with a church steeple, clock and bell.
In the years since the house was lost, local legend has produced the tale of a ghostly Blue Lady who roams the forest paths, searching forever for a lost love. The details of her story are vague, but people have described a sorrowful figure in blue drifting through the woods, and the tale has been passed down through generations.
