Blessingbourne is a 550-acre estate just outside Fivemiletown in County Tyrone, centred on a Tudor Revival mansion built in the 1870s for Colonel John Montgomery and still in the Montgomery family. Today it offers woodland walks, lakes, gardens and self-catering accommodation.
Spirited Isle gives its best-known ghost as the Lady in Grey. She is said to wander both the house and the grounds, a young woman linked to the Montgomery family whose heart was broken when her beloved was lost to war or misfortune. She is said to have faded from life but not from the estate. Her pale grey figure is glimpsed near the old stables or along the tree-lined paths and disappears into the mist before anyone gets close.
After dark visitors are said to have reported flickering lights in the windows of empty rooms, shadowy figures near the lake shore and woodland trails, the sound of horse-drawn carriages creaking along old carriageways, and weeping at dusk by the lakes. No dates or witnesses are named, and the story has the general shape of a country-house ghost tale rather than a documented family event.
