The Restaurant That Moved Its Own Baskets in Omagh

A former restaurant at 12 Bridge Street, Omagh

Around the 2000s; undated

For nearly ten years number 12 Bridge Street, Omagh, was a popular restaurant. Soon after opening, the owner and a member of her team saw food baskets and napkins moving on their own. They simply put them back. A few days later, alone one morning and cleaning upstairs, she heard things falling downstairs and found the same baskets thrown around. She tried to recreate the sound and could not. She also began to notice shadows moving on the stairs in places where passing people or traffic could not have cast them.

The first-floor dining room had distinct temperature changes, and a small storeroom there seemed to be the source of the activity. Once she locked stock in the storeroom and moments later heard a great disturbance inside. She fled and came back with a witness to find the cupboard door swinging open. On another occasion she felt as if someone rushed past her on the stairs.

Before an event with a live band, two staff downstairs and a musician upstairs heard several notes from the keyboard. They ran up and found the room empty, with the keyboard switched off and not even plugged in. When the owner pressed some keys, nothing sounded. The property is said to have been converted for residential use.

Former restaurant, now said to be residential; not a visiting site.
