The White Lady of Ballahick

Ballahick, between Derbyhaven and Ballasalla, Malew

A young man who loved dancing was on his way home to Glashen from the Derbyhaven direction one night. As he passed the barn at Ballahick he heard great singing and dancing coming from inside. He went in, and found it full of white ladies dancing. He joined them.

After a while he was hot and sweating, and without thinking he wiped his face on one of the ladies' aprons. That was enough to bind her to him. The white lady followed him everywhere from then on, to the day of his death, and got so used to his company that she would even be under the table when he sat down to eat.

Ballahick is a farming area in Malew; farm buildings are private.
