Ardglass Castle: the Child in the Wall

Ardglass Golf Club (Ardglass Castle), Castle Place, Ardglass

Reports since the 1927 renovations

Ardglass Castle began as a row of warehouses in the 15th century and was made into a castellated house in the late 18th century. By 1911 it was the clubhouse of Ardglass Golf Club. During renovations in 1927, workers reportedly found the body of a young child hidden inside a cavity wall, and the child was buried locally.

Since then visitors and staff have described footsteps upstairs and the sound of snooker balls being knocked about while no one is near the table. The link between the child and the sounds is a later association made by tellers of the story, not something any witness claims to have seen.

The building is a working golf club; the clubhouse is for members and guests.
