The Woman Who Walked on the Bann

A demolished boathouse on Foundry Street beside the River Bann, Portadown

Around 1900

At the turn of the 20th century, according to Spirited Isle, witnesses saw the ghost of a young woman apparently walking on the water near a boathouse on Foundry Street, on the River Bann. Residents nearby are said to have been disturbed at night by loud knocking at their windows and doors, and some reported poltergeist activity inside their homes.

The disturbances were put down to a young woman who had drowned in the river, whose body was later recovered from the water near the boathouse. The building is gone and the author of the entry believes the haunting has stopped, though he asks for news to the contrary.

There is no date for the drowning and no name for the woman, so there is nothing to check against records.
