RAF Kinloss and Lossiemouth confirmed that no aircraft were airborne at the time. The Coastguard at Wick saw a bright red light, but this was attributed to Mars, which was noted as larger and redder than usual. A bright planet low in the sky can seem to change colour and move because of the atmosphere and the eye's own effects, which would fit the colours reported, although the description of an arrowhead shape does not obviously fit.
