The Lochalsh Woman and the Frenchman's Grave

Lochalsh burying ground (exact site not identified)

Attributed to the 1600s; fulfilled before 1877

He says the fulfilment was quite different. A native of Lochalsh married a French footman, who died shortly after the marriage and was buried in the Lochalsh burying ground, leaving his widow to mourn at his grave.

Mackenzie admits the fulfilment may seem trivial, but says it matches the words exactly. He says the saying seems to have been made solely because of its unlikelihood.
