The Song from the Hillock near Portree

Near Portree, Isle of Skye

Before 1900, about three generations earlier

The woman went up and, listening, heard a woman inside the hillock churning milk and singing at her work. At the end of every verse there was a chorus, a single cry of hu. She learned the song, and it became known as the Song of the Hillock, Oran a chnuic.

Campbell says he could not find a copy of the song and that the incident happened three generations before he wrote.
