One night before bed they heard a horrible screaming coming towards the hut. They went out with sticks of firewood but could see nothing, though they knew something was approaching. The shrieks came nearer and at last a large dark object passed.
Their little dog, Dun-foot, gave chase. When it returned it had no hair on any part of it but its ears, and no hair ever grew after, only a kind of down. Campbell sets it beside similar stories from Tiree and Mull in which dogs come back stripped of hair after meeting fairies.
