The Thin Veil at Mahee Castle

Mahee Castle, Mahee Island

Undated

Mahee Castle, also called Nendrum Castle, is a tower house on Mahee Island built in 1570 by an English soldier, Captain Thomas Browne, after a petition to the Bishop of Down. It was abandoned in the early 17th century. According to local folklore, the veil between this world and the spirit realm is always thin here, not just at Samhain. Visitors have reported hearing whispering voices within the walls and watching mist form in front of them.
